#MerriesAt75: Parents advised to instill discipline in Girl child

St. Mary’s Old Girls Association (SMOGA) has launched a call to action for parents to support the school’s efforts in instilling discipline in the girl child, as part of its 75th-anniversary celebrations.

The 75th-anniversary celebrations, themed “Empowering Minds, Shaping Futures: 75 Years of Girl Child Education in Truth and Virtue,” will occur on September 21.

During a press briefing, SMOGA expressed concern over students’ behaviour, which often contradicts the school’s rules and regulations, tarnishing the institution’s image.

Headmistress of the school, Philomena Owusu Ansah appealed to parents to trust the school’s authority, allowing them to shape their children’s character.

“There are some students who have been exposed to so many things at home that they think that is the end of it. So when they come they don’t really pay attention to what we do here. But that is a challenge for the teaching and non-teaching staff.”

There are times when we try to correct them, but parents do not understand where we are coming from. So we will plead once you entrust the student into our care, let us try as much as possible, let the school mould the student because that is our future”, the headmistress emphasised.”

SMOGA’s Global President: Lynda Dede Graham

SMOGA’s Global President, Lynda Dede Graham, announced that a state-of-the-art Multipurpose Library, a 70th-anniversary project, will be presented to the school.

The facility, nearing completion, according to her, aims to enhance students’ academic performance.

“The library will provide a conducive learning environment, equipped with modern resources and trained staff. We’ve collaborated with stakeholders, including the Electricity Corporation and Ghana Library Board, to ensure its success,” Graham stated.

“The ‘Multipurpose’ library is the 70th-anniversary project. It’s taken us well over five years to complete it. It is a one-story facility. We are furnishing it as we speak. There are other stakeholders like the Electricity Corporation. They brought the Ghana Library Board. They are coming to train the staff ‘that’ will be there to help the students,” she stated.
